The jigsaw has then been drawn back into with inks.
This work was made in the same time period as Axis Mundi, Elemental and others, where I was (again) exploring jigsaws as a way to represent both fractures and connections and the problems that both can create when the brain breaks down.
Investigating ideas about addiction and the circuiitous trap of the repeated connections and the fracturing of memories and linkages in Alzheimers, stroke victims and other forms of similar impediments.
Diving Bell is taken from the book The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (original French title: Le Scaphandre et le Papillon, is a memoir by journalist Jean-Dominique Bauby. It describes his life before and after suffering a massive stroke that left him with locked-in syndrome and how he managed to communicate and dicate this book to his extraordinary speach therapist, sandrine.....with blinking his eyelids to represent letters or words.
the work is simply mounted on card ready to be mounted and framed but it could also be mounted onto a canvas.
This work can be shown in landscape or horizontal.
