Machine Flower

Slightly modified to create this print at H25 x W25cm H10 x 10inch, the original Ink drawing on Ivory Stonehenge  250gsm paper  is available to buy in my drawing collection. Completed in black, white, grey and silver inks and is one of a series of drawings exploring ideas for my circle paintings.

These small drawings are always a route to a larger work. Drawing is very important to me, it is at the root of everything that I make. I use it as a laying down of ideas, a brainstorming, a map or a patterning for thoughts. A palimpsest of charcoal or ink in lines, dashes and holes, is translated into my objects with thousands of repetitions... pins, nails, tiles, screws, threads,. Each part, every placing, becomes a memento marking a time in the works development and evolution.

The continual similarities between an image of a nebula, a cell, a flower, a fractal, a raindrop, gives me a motif, a symbol, a signifier, a switch, that turns the work into whatever the viewer is open to see. A small part of something greater? A macro or microcosm? Organic or metaphysical? A virus? A message? An alchemical symbol?

Patterns of seven overlapping circles appear in historical artefacts from the 7th century BC onwards; they become a frequently used ornament in the Roman Empire period, and survive into medieval artistic traditions both in Islamic art (girih decorations) and in Gothic art. The name "Flower of Life" is given to the overlapping circles pattern in New Age thoughts but is much much older.

I have set the print size larger than the originals so you can print in high resolution right up to 30cm / 12 inch which will make an image sure to make an impact. I can also provide even larger images upon request but prices may differ.

I have included a few mock-ups of the print framed at different sizes and in various situations. This is a digital download file, frame and print is not included.

  • About this download

    About this digital download:

A link to the image will be sent immediately upon payment.

This is a large file at 300dpi which can print up to H25 x W25cm 10x10 inch so will fit fine inside most standard paper sizes up to that size and frames with a border.

Although you can print on to any paper, I recommend an archival fine art paper if you intend to use as an art print. An excellent choice would be Hahnemeuhle rag paper in a satin or vellum finish. https://www.hahnemuehle.com/en/digital-fineart.html

Printing on paper between 200 and 300gms will work in most home printers and will give your print a firm place to fix. You can also use the image for a canvas, aluminium or other print.

Any problems with your download or any questions....just ask via chat on webpage or email sand451@hotmail.com
