Abracadabra began as a sequence of 66 circular drawings using the word’s triangular talismanic form as a structure. The drawings became a way of working through repetition, symbol, colour, movement and memory.
The word carries a long and uncertain history, moving between language, charm, protection and transformation.
Many of the drawings were made while travelling between 2016 and 2019, then completed at home during Covid. They carry traces of place, movement, colour, memory and dislocation.
The original 66 Abracadabra drawings influenced, and led into, larger related works including paintings, objects and sculptural pieces.
Most were made while travelling between 2016 and 2019, then completed at home during Covid. The full sequence took five years to complete, ending in December 2022.
